  • AUTOMOBILE
    Adults with a Michigan TIP must bring the following documents:
    • Valid Michigan Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP)
    • Certified Verification (i.e. State ID, Passport, Birth Certificate)
    • Current Vehicle Proof of Insurance and Registration
    Teens with a level 1 learners license must bring the following documents:
    • Valid Level 1 Learners License
    • Segment 2 Completion Certificate
    • Certified Identification (i.e. State ID, Passport, Birth Certificate)
    • Identification of Parent/Guardian
    • Current Vehicle Proof of Insurance and Registration
    International/Out of State Applicants with Secretary of State Receipt must bring the following documents:
    • Secretary of State Receipt
    • Valid License from another state or country
    • Certified translation of License if not in English
    • Certified Identification (i.e. State ID, Passport, Birth Certificate)
    • Current Vehicle Proof of Insurance and Registration
    **YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TEST IN A VEHICLE WITH DEFECTIVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT, THEREFORE, PLEASE VERIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING DEVICES ARE IN PROPER WORKING ORDER
    • Brakes
    • Brake lights
    • Center-mounted rear brake light on 1986 or newer models
    • Doors(*)
    • Fuel level
    • Headlights
    • Heater/Defroster
    • Horn
    • Lug nuts (only one can be missing per vehicle)
    • Rearview mirror and outside left mirror
    • Safety belts for all occupants
    • Seats for all occupants
    • Speedometer
    • Suspension Components
    • Taillights
    • Tires (properly inflated; not damaged)
    • Turn signals (front and rear)
    • Windshield(**)
    • Windshield wipers and washers
    • Muffler
    (*) The driver and passenger doors must work from the inside and outside. Doors that cannot be operated are safety hazards.
    (**) Examiners may refuse to administer a road test if the vehicles windshield is cracked so that it obstructs the drivers view
